New Milestone in Development Hydrogen Mobility
Yesterday, major players in the energy and trucking sectors announced that they will collaborate on the realisation of the European hydrogen ecosystem by 2030 for the large-scale deployment of hydrogen trucks. Daimler Truck, Volvo, Toyota, Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility and MB Energy headline an effort to build out hydrogen refueling stations, hydrogen-powered truck fleets and hydrogen supply. The aim is to service key strategic corridors in Europe, through a competitive total cost of ownership.
This new collaboration follows the recent news that the subsidy scheme by the German Ministry of Transport for new hydrogen refueling stations and hydrogen trucks was oversubscribed (as we highlighted last week). The declaration of the winning bids of this scheme is expected later this year. Similarly, the Dutch government is also expected to announce the winners of its SWIM-call this month, which will likewise allocate subsidies for the development of refueling stations and hydrogen trucks.
With such positive developments happening in rapid succession, the hydrogen mobility sector in Europe is taking further shape. The scaling of hydrogen mobility will complement battery-electric offerings, providing diverse solutions to reach zero-emission transport. The eight companies of yesterday’s announcement have indicated that further details are to be unveiled on September 15th, at the IAA Transportation conference. As this conference is one of the world’s premier transport and logistics events, hydrogen is in a position to take centre stage.
