H2A Active Participant during European Hydrogen Week

Held annually in Brussels, the European Hydrogen Week is one of the most prominent events in the hydrogen sector, gathering a large variety of both policymakers and companies, from both inside and outside of Europe. It serves as a platform for an active exchange of ideas and the latest developments, as well as to create new and foster existing relationships. The programme centres around both policy discussions and B2B forums. H2A and its members were strongly represented at this year’s event. The strong value that the port of Amsterdam can deliver as an import hub for hydrogen to Europe’s interests in the realms of energy resilience and security, industrial competitiveness and decarbonisation were clearly emphasised.

Partner engagements

The Amsterdam hydrogen cluster is an important pillar of the energy transition strategy pursued by the Dutch government. H2A was therefore keen to host a networking reception at the Dutch Pavilion on the opening day of the European Hydrogen Week. The realisation of the envisioned hydrogen import corridors requires many different partners, spread across the supply chain and thus all over the world. The reception was the perfect occasion to connect with partners originating from countries as Oman, Canada, Japan, Germany, Spain and France. Such international collaborations are the bedrock upon which the H2A consortium and the individual projects it comprises are built.

Highlighting the value of the Amsterdam import hub

The reception to conclude the opening day of the EU Hydrogen Week was followed by a substantive presentation on Wednesday, the 28th of October. The Dutch Pavilion again formed the backdrop, where the City of Amsterdam and Port of Amsterdam jointly presented the core features of the ecosystem the partners of H2A are developing and how this relates to the European (regulatory) context. This session highlighted how the different projects arising in the Amsterdam area contribute to the EU’s ambitions and where some of the key challenges still lie. Decisions made in Brussels directly impact the pace of development. The session was therefore intended to facilitate a dialogue between the private companies and the policymakers of the EU, since such an exchange is critical for the further evolution of hydrogen imports. With the aforementioned international partnerships in place and with alignment with the policymakers of the EU and of the individual countries that form part of the supply chain, the strategic and economic value for Europe can be maximised. H2A is a strong proponent of such a structure and will continue to advocate for the creation of a structural dialogue involving the key public and private players and the definition of targeted solutions that can address the main challenges remaining. The European Hydrogen Week 2026 illustrated this once more and is sure to lead to concrete next steps.
