Developing commercial scale projects
There are many initiatives announced and underway in the Amsterdam metropolitan region that will accelerate the development of a green hydrogen cluster, including the production of green hydrogen. The H2A partners already announced a number of agreements for large scale projects and collaborations.
In 2022 Evos, Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies and Port of Amsterdam announced their collaboration to jointly develop large-scale hydrogen import facilities. Including a large-scale dehydrogenation plant in the port of Amsterdam.
A consortium of SkyNRG, KLM, Schiphol, the Municipality of Amsterdam and Port of Amsterdam aim to develop the Synkero production facility for the production of synthetic kerosine (based on green hydrogen). The project will include a pipeline connection between the Port of Amsterdam and Schiphol Airport.
The world’s first hydrogen powder plant will be set up on Zenith’s terminal in the Amsterdam port. Electriq Global, a specialist in innovative hydrogen solutions, and Zenith Energy Terminals, a company that stores and processes fuels and energy carriers, have jointly signed a letter of intent for the construction of this production facility. The plant will make hydrogen powder based on green hydrogen produced with power from wind energy.
In collaboration with Port of Amsterdam, HyCC is launching the H2era project to build a 500-megawatt green hydrogen plant at the port. This will mark a major step in the development of the hydrogen economy in the North Sea Canal area to make industry and mobility more sustainable.
Port of Amsterdam and Firan, a subsidiary of Alliander, have signed a cooperation agreement for the design of an open-access hydrogen distribution network in the Amsterdam port and industrial area, H2avennet.
In 2022, Port of Amsterdam and duisport (Duisburg Hafen AG) announced the joint expansion and development of their hinterland network. The agreement represents a new phase in the long-term partnership between the two ports that are directly connected via the river Rhine and multiple land routes and fulfil important roles as logistical hubs for the European hinterland. As part of the cooperation, Port of Amsterdam and duisport will jointly explore the potential of several hydrogen carrier technologies.
In 2022, Ports of Amsterdam, Port of Cork and EIH2, Ireland’s first green hydrogen company, signed an agreement to stimulate and facilitate the production of green hydrogen and distribution into mainland Europe. This collaboration aims to create an import chain to the port of Amsterdam for green hydrogen produced in Ireland. Ireland has great potential for offshore wind energy production.
Masdar has signed an agreement with the Port of Amsterdam and several other parties in early 2023, with the aim of establishing a hydrogen corridor between the UAE and the port of Amsterdam.
